TDF RipStop

TDF was a dance project between Simon Climie, Eric Clapton and Sheryl Crow. TDF (on Reprise Records) stood for “Totally Dysfunctional Family” and it makes total sense because, well, it mixed drum & bass with Eric Clapton’s licks. The album had a photo of the (presumably) 3 stars wearing motorcycle helmets protecting their identities.

This project was an absolute blast. Mark Jeremias and I won the music video based on a treatment we wrote that fused Mark’s love of surf/skate culture and graphic design elements. We closed out half of Snow Summit to film the snowboarding where I had sacrificed a super-8 camera that we strapped to one of the pro boarders. Mark and I both appear in the video, with me wearing one of the helmets from the album cover.  This was another of our collaborations with Brumby Boylston who created an animation of bikini-clad dancers getting sprayed out of a vintage bug sprayer for the video.

The video was recently posted on YouTube which proves that nothing is safe from scrutiny! The creative directors at Grey/LA caught wind of the video which led us to direct a series of El Torito commercials in La Paz, Mexico, based on a revised treatment.
